About Me

Welcome to Tales From The Debt Side (TheDebtSide.com)

My Story:

My name is Jay and I’m 42 years old and my financial problems have reached a point where I have to take action!

I got my first credit cards about 16 years ago and thought I handled them well.  I handled them so well that there was always another company offering me one and the ones I had kept increasing my limits.  I never really got close to maxing one of them out though.   I knew I didn’t want very much credit card debt and would plan to pay them off, but something would always come up and I’d go a little bit deeper in debt.

The justification was always that I could work more overtime to pay them off.  The company I work for did offer lots of overtime in those days, so it seemed like a legitimate plan.  Of course, the right thing to do would have been to work all the overtime FIRST and then pay cash for the computer, the TV, the vacation and the Christmas presents, but that’s just 16 years of experience talking!

Now I find myself with so many debts, that I’m struggling to even make the minimum payments.  With the economy getting worse all the time, my company is doing everything they can to avoid paying overtime.  They are even shutting down several days that I will not be paid for, so as my bills are going up, my income is going down! That’s never a good combination.

I’ve been reading a lot of blogs from people in situations similar to mine and as they post their results, they seem to be making progress.  They are my inspiration to share my journey through a blog.  Hopefully, writing about it will ease some of my frustrations and also inspire me to stick with my plan.

I’ve set the blog up to allow comments from readers, so if you have any suggestions, comments or questions, feel free to join the discussion.
