Discover Card $20.00 Cash Back

My Discover pays me a small percentage of cash back from each purchase.  Once that total adds up to $20.00, I can redeem it for cash, gift cards from various businesses or apply it back to my account.

I recently used my card to take advantage of an offer at the mall, that I’ve written a couple articles about.  The amount I spent got me to the amount I needed to get a $20.00 rebate.

I’ve reached that amount a couple times and had them mail me a check.  This time, I had them apply it back to my account.  The account was charged $24.00 in interest last month, so this almost cancels that out, meaning my payment this month will almost all go toward the principal.

I’ve had a lot of days off from work for the holidays.  This year I’ve had even more days off because the company I work for added extra days off to slow production due to lack of sales.  To get paid for these extra days you had to use vacation time and I ran out of that several weeks ago.  With all the unpaid days, I have two paychecks in a row that were less than usual.  This weeks check is probably the smallest check I’ve received in 13 years.

Looking at our January bills, I’m thinking we might not have enough to put much extra on our top priority on our debt snowball (The Care Credit Account), but at least we should be able to make all the payments on time.  If we hadn’t taken the steps to refinance our debts in November, I think we’d be really hurting with this reduced income.

I’m so anxious to take a big bite out of the debt, but it’s just not time yet.  Being able to apply that $20.00 cash back rebate, will have to be my small victory for this month.  It’s a small step, but at least it’s a step FORWARD instead of BACKWARDS!
