Discover Card Offer at the Mall

I received a card in the mail saying that our local mall was participating in an offer from Discover card.  The offer says that if I spend $200 at the mall with my Discover card and take all the receipts to the customer service office, they will give me a $20 Discover gift card.  That’s a nice 10% rebate, but I’m not sure if I need $200 of stuff from the mall.

I thought about getting started by buying my nephew a $50 video game, but my sister works at the store and they were allowed to shop at a 20% discount last weekend.  She bought it with her discount and I payed her back.

I come from a big family and we used to buy for everyone, but this year we decided we’d all just shop for the kids, so I don’t have very many gifts to buy.  I have thought about getting my daughter a TV for her bedroom, so I could use the card on that and be over the $200 in one purchase.  I’ll have to shop around town to see if it’s be a better buy elsewhere first.

My main goal this year is to not use any credit to pay for Christmas.  If I decide I’m going to do this offer, I am going to go online and make a $200 payment to Discover right before I go to the mall. I’ll feel better knowing I’ve already paid the charge off before I make it.
